Today, we’re excited to announce that because of the great demand for the Chevrolet Volt, we’re increasing our production for 2012 by 50% - from 30,000 to 45,000. This latest announcement follows an exciting month for the Volt:
On July 1, we announced that Texas, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut would be initial launch markets for the Volt, joining Michigan, California and Washington D.C.
On July 14, we announced an 8 year / 100,000 mile warranty for all 161 components of the Volt’s lithium-ion battery.
And earlier this week, we announced the Volt’s price and ordering process. Check out Volt Marketing Director Tony DiSalle’s blog for all the information.
This announcement comes the same day that President Barack Obama visited the Detroit-Hamtramck facility, where the Volt is being produced now for sale later this year. For more photos of the President’s visit, check out our Posterous page later today or follow along on Twitter by following @ChevyVolt and @GMBlogs.

1. Why take the idea of 100 miles as a destination down to the 40 miles for the existing ZAP cars that cost only 15-20K??? You had a GREAT idea target of 100 mile range, why settle for less? Why? you didn't separate yourself as a leader...but as a follower. And you expect people to pay 40k+ for this same result? Hmmmm...... even the 100 mile electric range of the existing APTERA costs less than 30K and allows 2 people to travel in a 3 wheel car comfortably at highway speeds as Jay Leno owns one & shown on youtube & his Jays Garage site. Only FISKAR's electric sportscar is more expensive at more than 70K for 100 mile range.
2. The Concept VOLT had Snappy design! why did you weaken it down to a boring look? You barely kept any of the unique looks of it and gave a BLAND built version? Is your audience the 50-80 yr old range? I would think you would WANT to RETHINK this design! Offer a "SP" version for the 20-50 yr old group that USES the original Concept VOLT ideas...including the hand stitched seats...better yet for everyone! and gives us that great "look" you PAID your designers to create...not just for a "wow" at a car show...but PROOVING finally that a concept car CAN become 100% reality just AS it WAS designed.
3. Convertable version?
4. keep the lighting, dashboard, detailing inside the VOLT concept car as it was on the final version! shame on you for taking it away and again offering BLAND stripped down version that doesnt offer much more than current cars offered.
YOU HAD A GREAT IDEA WITH THE VOLT CONCEPT CAR......the Execution and result is far from what you set out to do and the attention that you got from poeople like me (age 47) with environment mind with "design" oriented for unique snappy interior as the concept Volt had has been now dimenished. I can honestly say you fell from your mark and have lost my attention on it unless you can get back to the boards your fabulous design staff created and make them reality in the FOR SALE version.
Just DO it! make your concept VOLT reality! With ALL it offered. THEN you keep everyone's attention and the pricing makes sense then..otherwise why would I want to trade my old vehicle?

America needs them NOW.
Folks our cost would go way down if GM made many more. It's the Henry Ford assembly line concept and volume parts pricing. GM knows that.
Help get the government involved in pushing GM. I wouldn't mind my taxes being used to guarante GM sales at first if they hold their profit down to around 8% while they get the guarantee. A simple, no lose, business deal.

The Volt is where we have to start, and it seems to be a great car by itself. But it is just the beginning.
