What ever happened to the idea that a small one or two cylinder motor could be used to "recharge" the battery. A utility motor like that used to power small electrical devices away from home. Something that would keep the batteries charged up while driving. It could run off of gas, diesel, or propane. I thought that was it's original concept.

My impression is that the Volt is a clone of the Prius. A car with an electric and a gas motor to propel it.

How much will the Volt cost and when will it be on the market for the average Joe to buy? All so if I find that I can afford it how do I get on the waiting list and how long is it?

Sounds good. I mean its an improvement.... But we /I'm into larger SUVs and lots of room. You know. For this and that. Like for when going on a road trip coast to coast. And I know in that case. I would prefer unlimited range and thats what we have been working on doing and that is exactly what we are now able to do.

Cheers !

I know that once my Saturn Redline gives up the ghost, I'll be driving an electric car. My question is: when the Volt is in "extended mode" will it perform *as well*? or will it be more of a "limp mode" until it gets electrically recharged?
K.L., we are at war with some of these OPEC nations, so, no: I'm not worrying about "*increasing* tensions". We are guilty of funding their wealth while they kill our boys. Removing ourselves from the oil market will also make oil more plentiful for our diesel trucking economy, which can't run on electricity. It seems to me the patriotic and globally eco-friendly move to make (switching to an electric car)

Creating electricity does create emissions, love the volt concept, but has anyone thought about the tensions this will cause with OPEC? P.S. I am pro nuclear with the reprocessing too, go chevy
